TWO PARKS IN TWO DAYS AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS
Neighborhood volunteers gathered together July 9 and 10 to clean, paint, and rebuild neighborhood parks as part of the Two Parks in Two Days project. On Saturday, July 9, volunteers converged on Barbey's Playground at Elm Street and Schuylkill Avenue in Reading. The Gilmore | Henne Community Fund repaired the middle and south part of the park, installing over 12,000 square feet of new sod, building a serenity garden and new retaining walls, resurfacing the existing basketball court, and planting new gardens and other landscaping.
On Sunday, July 10, volunteers once again came together to rebuild the Temple Playground in Muhlenberg Township. The renovation included a new playground, mulch, basketball court resurfacing, painting, new hoops, some landscaping, and new picnic, seating and walking areas.
"No community can do this alone in difficult economic times, and we are blessed to have their energy and enthusiasm to help make our city all it can be. Even more importantly, they have enlisted the neighbors and youth to actively participate in maintaining the parks," said Reading Mayor Thomas McMahon.
Thank you to everyone that came out and/or donated their services to make this project a success. We couldn't have done it without your support!
