Rally For Recreation 2011: Welcome to Fabulous Berks County!
Wilson High School graduates and NFL standouts John Gilmore and Chad Henne, co-founders of the Gilmore | Henne Community Fund, were back in action hosting the 2011 Rally for Recreation Comedy Showcase and Benefit, presented by FROMUTH, this year. The comedy showcase, a Las Vegas themed affair, starred Comedian Alex Smith, as seen on countless hit comedy shows like In Living Color, Martin, and the Jamie Foxx Show, featured a special performance by funny-man Pierre, and opened with Wilson High School grad Sid Veda (aka Chad from the Metro PCS Tech and Talk television commercials)!View the 2011 Rally For Recreation Images View the 2010 Rally For Recreation Images The night was filled with entertainers, celebrities, former and current professional athletes and Olympians, and a live and silent auction featuring prized sports memorabilia, extraordinary experiences, and fabulous getaways. Nearly 1,000 people came out in support of the Gilmore | Henne Community Fund, raising over $100,000.
Following the comedy showcase, attendees poured out of the theater right in to the after party being held on four floors of the Sovereign Performing Arts Center. Bands, dancing, and a moving cupcake table highlighted the activities just outside of the main theater doors.
From there, supporters proceeded to the second floor Riverboat Casino Room where they jumped at the opportunity to win (and lose) specially-designed Gilmore | Henne funny money used to win amazing raffle prizes and the third floor where a ballroom was transformed into a Vegas nightclub. Complete with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, a stage featuring burlesque dancers and configured to resemble a luxe lounge, and statuesque performers adorning the dance floor, the nightclub was among one of the favorite spots at the after party.
When the lights finally came on in the wee hours of the morning, the Rally For Recreation, now in its second year, proved to be a smashing success. The people came. The people saw. And most importantly, the people had fun; all in support of one of the most rewarding and important initiatives Berks County has ever seen. We’d like to extend a big Thank You to all of those that came out in support of the Rally For Recreation.
